A new summit between the United States and North Korea has begun in Sweden to discuss the issue of nuclear weapons.
On the heavily armored island of Lidingo, US envoy to North Korea Stephen Biegun and North Korean diplomat Kim Myong Gil have arrived.
The atmosphere before the summit has not been calm, especially after statements by former national security adviser John Bolton, from whom Pyongyang chose not to give up its arsenal, despite dialogue on denuclearization with the United States.
This is Washington and Pyongyang’s second attempt to address the nuclear-related issue this year following the talks in Vietnam that did not have a satisfactory end.
The leaders of the two countries met again later, agreeing to resume negotiations. According to some analysts, however, there are increasing chances for the two countries to reach an agreement, after months of stalemate and tension.
